Part 2

Vocab
"There is an incessant influx of novelty into the world, and yet we tolerate incredible dulness."

--Henry David Thoreau Walden

aerobic respiration the physical and chemical process of conveying oxyen to tissues and cells and the products (carbon dioxide and water) are given off.

carbohydrate any of a class of organic compound containg carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, including starches and sugars, produced in green plants by photosynthesis.

decomposition the breaking down into constituent molecules.

enzyme a protein that facilitates a chemical reaction.

hormone a chemical compound that affects the functions of specifically receptive organs or tissues when transported to them by the body fluids.

lipid any of a group of organic compounds comprising fats, waxes, etc., that are insoluble in water.

hydrolysis a reaction in which a compound is split into other compounds by reacting with water.

nucleic acid any of the group of molecules that carry genetic information. (DNA, RNA)

nucleotide any of the group of molecules that make up a nucleic acid.

photosynthesis the wonderful green plant process by which solar energy is converted into chemical energy (carbohydrates) and oxygen is released.

protein an organic molecule composed of amino acids linked in one or more long chains, constituting a large portion of the mass of every life form.

steroid any of a large group of fat-soluble organic compounds that perform specific physiological actions.
