Class 14: Chapter 26

1. Electric fields storage energy.  Formula:_____

2. Dielectrics: store more (____) charge.  How? But what about voltage and E field?

3.Dipoles: What direction do they point?____  How do we define torque?________   How do we define potential energy?____

4. Test 2, Chapters 25-26 (including the 'optional' section on dipoles) 24 M.C. questions (10 separate problems with a total of 24 responses) , and 2 HWS problems.   It available from noon Friday Feb. 5 through Tueday Feb. 9.  It will also be available for a late fee of $3.25 on Wednesday February 10.  Good luck!

THINGS TO KNOW

You should still be able to calculate field, and know how to use Gauss' law. (review).

Be able to draw and interpret maps of electric field and potential.

Be able to calculate potential for point charges and a continuous distribution of charges.

Be able to find E from V and visa versa.

Be able to find energy and energy density from C, q, or for a distribution of charge.

Be able to find the capacitance of parallel plate capacitors with and without dielectrics.

Be able to find total equivalent capacitance for a circuit.

Identify parallel and series.
Know the rules for parallel and series.

Be able to calculate the torque, and find the energy of dipoles in an electric field.

Look at the sample problems for chapters 25 and 26 and the HWS problems you have not yet done. Also look for chapter 25 and 26 problems on the sample final.
