Review test 6 (LAST TEST BEFORE THE COMPREHENSIVE M.C.
FINAL) Runs Friday 2 April through Wednesday 7 April 1999.
WED is a no fee late day. There
are 25 MC problems, NO HW Style. It's tough though. Learn
ELI the ICE man, for sure, and how to calculate Z and phi.
Chapter 32
Self Inductance:
There are three different equations given.
First the definition of inductance:
Second using Faraday's law:
Third, by making substitutions for
,
you can obtain an expression for L that depends only on the geometry of
the coil. For a solinoid
RL circuits (DC circuits containing
a resistor and an inductor)
Know what happens when a switch is first
closed and first opened.
Energy
Be able to find the energy stored in an
inductor. Look at examples 32.4 and 32.5. Make sure you can find the energy
stored in some time other than infinity for 32.4.
Mutual inductance
Skim the section and make sure you know
the definitions.
LC and LRC oscillations
-
Make sure you understand the mass on a spring
analogy.
-
Know what resonance is, when it occurs, and
be able to find the resonance frequency for both LC and RLC oscillators.
Chapter 33 -- AC circuits containing
any series combination of resistors capacitors and inductors.
-
RMS current voltage, and the connection to
power.
-
Be able to find inductive and capacitive reactance
and total impedence.
-
Remember ELI the ICE man. Be able to draw
phasor diagrams for RLC circuits.
-
Be able to find power dissipated in an RLC
circuit.
-
Know what resonance means.
-
Know how high pass and low pass filters work
with both inductors and capacitors.
-
Know how a transformer works.
